Rien ne va plus - Strikes and Tibet

While I am contemplating about which country to see next, my plan falls into place almost by itself. Well, not necessary the way I wanted to, but driven by the political tension in this part of the world...

My plan was to go to Tibet but China has - again - increased the visa and permit requirements for Tibet. It is now the 5th change within two months. Now every foreigner has not only to be in a group but in a group of min. five (!!!) people of the same nationality travelling on the same itinerary. I am not the best group traveller and this is just too much. Something is serious wrong here - time to not spend my money with the Chinese.

And starting from today for at least three days, another strike in Nepal. Rien ne va plus - no buses, taxis, shops....just nothing. How can a weak economy survive in this political climate? Since I am here in early April, there were strikes on almost every week.

Hence I will stay in Kathmandu for another couple of days...
No business today, tomorrow, the day after...not necessary
the best for an already fragile economy which relies on tourist dollars.
I don't think this poor fellow will benefit from the strikes...sad.
Strike 'enforcer' flatten tyres...today is strike day!
