Part IV - 3 Passes, 4 Summits, lakes and EBC: The Three Passes Trek

Day 16 Gokyo (4790m) - Gokyo Ri (5360m) - Gokyo (4790m): 570m up, 570m down
Today we just raced to the top and enjoyed the good weather and the clear view. By now my body seem to have adjusted to the height and I can feel the red blood cells doing their job much better. But how long will that last?

Nice view from here...

Gokyo lakes No 1, 2 and 3
Day 17 Gokyo (4790m) - Renjo La Pass (5360m) - Thame (3800m): 570m up, 1560m down
The last pass and it is time to say good bye to Mt Everest. After a tough 135min we reach the pass and turn around for a final view.
The Renjo La is the least trekked pass and we only saw 6 other trekkers and one group on the entire day. The 1560m of descend are amazingly pleasant following the spring of the Bhote Kosi until it grows bigger and bigger.
We then spent the night in Apa Sherpa's guesthouse. Apa Sherpa is the Paris Hilton of Nepal, he has summitted Mt Everest 21 times and just came back from the Great Himalayan Trail where he walked 1550km in 99 days - quite and achiever!

Up the last pass...somewhere there...

...up the iceface...

...and turn around for a last view of Mt Everest from the top of Renjo La Pass (5360m)

Dawa Sherpa only looks forward into the 1560m descdend to Thame...

...down the valley...

...to Thame...

...home of Apa Sherpa.

Day 18 Thame (3800m) - Namche Bazar (3440m): 150m up, 510m down
Day 19 Namche (3440m) - Lukla (2840m): 250m up, 840m down
Day 20 Lukla (2840m) - Kathmandu (1300m)
Not much to say for the last days, it is time to wrap it up. Two more days of walking down (mostly) and then the shock to hear that a plane from the same airline which we had booked, just crashed this morning with 21 people on board - only 6 survived badly injured.

Amazing to see some green once down below 3500m

Good bye Himalayas!
